Taylor Lautner the Next Super Hero Max Steel?
I knew it!!! I had a big hunch that Taylor Lautner was in talks to star in an action super hero movie!!! I never wrote about it, just in case I was completely wrong and I didn't want to start any rumors.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Taylor and his reps at representatives at WME and Management 360 are looking for his next big project to follow Gary Marshall's "Valentine's Day."
Lautner would play Josh McGrath, a 19-year-old extreme-sports athlete who is accidentally exposed to the unleashed power of nanotechological machines, which become part of him and (in the old show, at least) give him increased strength, near-invulnerability and the ability to change his appearance.
"Steel" was a Mattel line back in 2001 that raked in $100 million worldwide and spawned an animated series that lasted three season.
You might be wondering how I knew something like this was going to happen. Well, here's how I came to my conclusion.
- Taylor was recently spotted leaving Xtreme Martial Arts (XMA), owned by his former martial arts coach Mike Chat
- He's been photographed wearing a red XMA baseball cap a couple of times, and he normally doesn't wear hats.
- The boy is super athletic and there are so many pics and video of him flipping, jumping and showing off his moves. Movie execs will take notice of that.
- In a recent interview, Tay hinted about an upcoming project that he's very excited about. I assumed that a big project was in the works.
- He's talented, athletic, handsome and his career is on fire right now. Perfect for a super hero role!

It's amazing! I had a gut feeling as well that Tay would somehow end up with a superhero role! It was just a matter of time before a director would be smart enough to cast this bo-hunk as the lead role. But I have a tiny issue with it, I imagined Taylor to land a role in a bigger superhero character... like maybe a teen titan or some Marvel or DC comic character.. but oh well... I mean I'm not too familiar with this Max Steel ... this movie can be a big hit or big disaster depending on how popular the Superhero really is. So lets hope this movie is a hit for Taylor cause that would suck if it doesn't and it ends up hurting Tay's career. So let's hope not!
But hey, let's also hope that there are plenty of shirtless scenes in this movie.. he'll be legal enough to do it now LMAO.
Well I must say this is my area of expertees when it comes to super heroes and the Toy companies that represent them. First of all I don't want to sound like a downer but like monikalopez stated I too was hoping for something bigger. I am all in favor of Taylor playing a super hero. I'm just not sure this is the right one. Not that this isn't big news for Lautner I'm happy for him but this has potential to flop big. And it won't be his fault. Max Steel has been off the radar for some time now. Even I had to do research to find out who owned it. When it comes to kids movies and that's what this will be. Based off the Mattel Toy line (Barbie for boys)I like to call it, it just didn't do well. And Mattel has a way of junking things up in merchandising. Their last disaster was the Speed Racer toys. Stores still can't get rid of that stuff. They also didn't do so well with Super-man Returns or Batman Beyond what chance does Max Steel have?
If this has any chance of doing well it needs to be reintroduced into a cartoon for kids to watch and the merchandising by Mattel needs to apply some quality control. It needs to compete with the likes of Gi-Joe and the Transformers. Bottom line though in my experience if a movie's merchandise aint called Star Wars it aint going to do well. So they usually don't put a lot of "Try" into it. The latest exceptions have been Transformers and Gi-Joe Rise of Cobra.
When I think of super hero movies Taylor would be perfect for one name comes to mind Nightwing. He was the first Robin who eventually grew out of his yellow cape. He even uses a Bow Staff how perfect would that have been? I cross my fingers on this whole move and wish him the best. Maybe it will be another stepping stone for his "Bourne" Series.
